I
grew up an Air Force brat traveling to a new place every few years.
As a kid I loved to draw and make just about anything. I wanted
to grow up to be a cartoonist though I loved making things of wood
and anything else handy. My family lived all over the States and
in Japan. I graduated from high school in 1973 from Cicero High,
near Syracuse, NY. I had a wonderful art teacher, Mr.DePentu who
introduced me to many art forms and my first sculpture. I loved
it! We moved to Charleston, SC where my dad retired after 30 years
in the Airforce. There I met my husband. Jon was in the Air Force
too, so off we went. We moved to Guam after we were married where
we spent most of our time coaching the AF base swim team. Once back
in the States I went to Abilene Christian University in Texas where
I got my Bachelors of Fine Arts degree. That was where under the
tutelage of Arthur Williams I fell in love with carving stone and
wood. After graduation we moved to Minot, ND for a short stint before
Lake Jackson, Texas. Wood sculpting wasn't always easy to do with
a new child and little to no facilities available so I found polymer
clay and made my first Thumbprint Kid in 1983. When we retired from
the Air Force we settled back in Charleston, SC to be near family.
There I resumed carving my sculptures and then began to make my
Thumbprint Kids again. That progressed into my cake topper figures. We
attend Miles Road Baptist Church in Summerville, SC where I'm involved
in the music ministry ( please come visit us if you're in the area..
call me and I'll let you know how to get there). My hobbies... I
love to draw, I love to knit, I love to crochet, I really love to
read (most anything but fantasy the most.. I'm into Robin Hobb at
the moment), and I love to sing (though you may not want to listen).
We have two wonderful children, Diane 22 and Jeremy 25 (where did
the time go!), who recently got married to Michelle. . My husband
Jon works for Boeing now, on their flight simulator. We have been
married 34 years! We presently living in Summerville, SC. AND I
am a proud new grandma! Want to see pictures?
